Jamestown Discovery I am pleased to share with you a view back in time to the birth of our country. The first of my Jamestown Discovery Series depicts the Jamestown landing on the early morning of May 14th, 1607. This painting shows the ships and explorers landing, and setting up a cross to claim the land for England's King James. The ships – the Discovery, the Godspeed, the Susan Constant along with a small boat called the shallop – are all shown in the painting.

Preosperous Hope
The third of my Jamestown Discovery Series depicts the Shallop and Discovery sailing up the James to the fall line at Powhatan, below Richmond at sunset. This event was one of the English high points in the first 2 months in the new world--the planting of the Cross.
The calm waters of the James and the reflections of the trees give the viewer rest. The large tree covers the scene with tranquil protection while an indian mother and her son lay hope to a Prosperous Hope for their future with the English as their neighbors.

Perfect Morn
We all remember a time when everything in our lives was peaceful. This new painting by Dale Glasgow, The Perfect Morn, personifies those memories—a large tree sheltering a young man fishing by the James River on a golden summer day.
The time period of the painting is the early frontier days of Lynchburg when Lynch's ferry began in the1750s. In view is the ferry that is crossing the river with settlers on their way from eastern Virginia to Ohio's new lands.

Sunrise O'r the River
The sunrise of early summer is a special time we all enjoy. The mist of the morn, the gentle sun, the peace that urges us to discover who we really are.
This is that Sunrise O’r the River when John Smith sailed up the Rappahannock near Frederick- sburg & Stafford’s fall line in the summer of 1608. John Smith and his party nailed three brass crosses to a large tree, claiming the land for Christ and King James I of England.

The Call
The Little Drummer Boy of the Rappahannock is a remarkable story that gives us hope when we’re faced with death.
Robert Henry Hendershot was a 12 year old drummer boy for the 8th Mighigan infantry in the Civil War, 1862 while serving in Fredericksburg, Virginia. A boy with nerve-- was first to push off boats loaded with soldiers towards enemy territory. Accidentally, he didn’t let go-- and was dragged to the enemy’s battle front.
Landing on the battle front, and faced with new soldier duties-- Hendershot found a standed enemy soldier in a basement. He gave him consolation and amazingly-- this 12 year old, brought this enemy soldier to surrender-- that saved him from death.
